Safran Landing Systems GLS are a prominent manufacturer within the UK aviation industry, producing and refurbishing aircraft landing gear from their factory in Gloucester.
Pelloby recently helped Safran accommodate some new machinery at their site by replacing an existing crane with a brand new raised overhead system.
One area of the Safran factory contains a steel gantry framework which supports a stationary monorail crane beam and an older travelling overhead crane.
Earlier this year Safran decided to improve their workplace operations with the introduction a series of new production machines. A problem arose however because this new equipment was taller than the existing gantry steelwork, meaning the overhead crane was unable to travel the entire length of the gantry – limiting its operational use.
Pelloby were able to work with Safran to find a workable solution to this challenge. They designed a replacement single girder crane with raised legs to increase the system’s maximum headroom by 1500mm.
This meant the replacement crane could easily straddle the new machinery on site, while also ensuring the gantry didn’t have to be adapted in any way or even scrapped entirely – representing a cost effective and minimally disruptive solution.
A history of lifting services
Pelloby have supplied several lifting products to Safran over recent years including a widespan five tonne overhead system and a two tonne crane with a radio controlled wire rope hoist and a 6.3 metre height of lift that was installed earlier in 2016.
