Although we ship our lifting products all around the UK and regularly export goods internationally, we also enjoy working with local businesses too. We’ve been supplying one such company, HL Smith Transmissions Ltd., with Pelloby cranes for over 20 years.
Operating from their 85,000 sq ft headquarters in Albrighton, Shropshire, HL Smith supply remanufactured commercial transmissions parts, including propshafts, manual and auto gearboxes and driveheads.
HL Smith have acquired more than 30 Pelloby cranes over the years, with the oldest dating back to the early 1990s. Here we take a quick look at some of these systems and talk to HL Smith’s Managing Director about his experience of working with Pelloby.
The majority of the lifting systems on site are post jib cranes in Pelloby’s classic red and green colours. Located at various points throughout their workshops, these jibs range in safe working capacity from 125-500kg.
Many of the jib cranes are positioned above directly alongside individual workstations and feature manual slewing designs, allowing them to be easily operated by hand by their manufacturing team on a daily basis. This gives each member of staff working there instant lifting access as and when required.
One key benefit of Pelloby jibs, notable with the cranes at the HL Smith site, compared to those of other manufacturers, is that the post can be directly attached to the workshop floor using resin anchors. This means no extras costs were added to the price of each crane for an intermediate fixing plate, as is standard practice for other suppliers.
Overheads and Goal Post Mounted Cranes
In addition to the jibs Pelloby also supplied HL Smith with various goal post mounted monorail cranes and manual overhead cranes for lifting bulky items between workstations and on to trolleys to be moved to other sections of the facility.
Pelloby cranes are built to last but as with any industrial equipment used on a daily basis, wear and tear can occur over time. As such our service and support team provides breakdown support, thorough examinations and staff training in how to use cranes safely.
We’ve been providing servicing support for HL Smith for a number of years to help them ensure they’re getting the most out of their various Pelloby cranes as their business and operational goals continue to evolve year on year.
HL Smith‘s Managing Director Russell Smith said “over our long association Pelloby have supplied our company with both a quality product and service allowing us to move forward in a confident and safe environment knowing that our lifting requirements within the workshops are being looked after in a most professional manner. I would have no hesitation in recommending Pelloby for any needs in this field.”
