Any piece of machinery designed for use in a galvanising plant needs to be robust enough to handle frequent use and the adverse working conditions that are typical of that sort of industrial environment.
Lifting equipment is no exception to this rule and that’s why the four tonne crane we installed at Stoke Galvanising was built to be as robust, durable and reliable as possible.
Four tonne crane
The Stoke-on-Trent based firm approached us with a project to replace their old overhead crane with a new system that would allow them to continue lifting products in and out of hot-dip galvanising baths on a daily basis.
The four tonne crane needed to support two hoists and run on the plant’s existing gantry supporting steelwork. We opted for a single girder beam design spanning a total of 11.5m, which straddled the entire width of the warehouse. The finished electric overhead crane provided a 5.5m total height of lift.
To ensure longevity of use in this harsh industrial workplace the four tonne crane was made to measure and tailored precisely around the dimensions of the plant and existing gantry. As a further protective measure an additional coating of top quality paint was added to the crane.
The two chain hoists were connected by a rigid galvanised tie bar which ran along the length of the beam and the system was controlled via an independent pendant with a selector switch for operating both hoists and the long travel motion.
The Pelloby team managed this entire project from the initial quote and design phases right through to manufacture and delivery. The installation team which erected the four tonne crane, also took care of the removal of the existing crane and carried out all final testing and commissioning to ensure the new system was safe to use.
