Our A-frame gantries are a type of mobile portal crane that can be used for many different applications. Here we’re looking at a recent project in which UK surface preparation technology firm Trelawny SPT purchased a crane from this popular Pelloby range.
Mobile portal crane design
Pelloby A-frame gantries consist of a very simple structure. The main beam is a horizontal member fabricated from rolled steel fitted with end plates and cheek plates suitable for connection to the rolled hollow steel leg sections. The side profile of the crane resembles the letter A – hence the product’s name.
Trelawny needed a workstation solution for lifting motors weighing up to 500kg for their floor scarifiers and planner products.
As all of our mobile portal cranes are made to order we designed the span and height around Trelawny’s requirements. At 3.3m and 2.4m respectively, the crane easily straddled the workbench it was designed for use with while providing an adequate height of lift to clear the products on top of the bench.
The beauty of these cranes is that the entire system is carried on four polyurethane castors complete with wheel locks. This allows the team at Trelawny to wheel the crane (when not under load) between various workstations, which provides greater flexibility in achieving multiple lifting applications.
A hoist to suit the application
Trelawny opted for an electric chain Hoist unit with push travel trolley to be supplied along with the mobile portal crane. The system came ready with all electrical wiring built in including a festoon, a plug and a socket for the incoming power supply. Pelloby specified a Yale electric chain unit with 4 & 1 m/min dual hoisting speeds.
