Electric girder overhead cranes are among the most popular the lifting systems we are asked to design and produce, and gantry steelwork for these cranes to travel on is often a key part of our client’s brief. This recent installation saw us create a 15 metre gantry structure to successfully meet our customer’s longitudinal travel requirement.
The single girder beam of the crane had a total span of 10,000mm. We specified a wire rope hoist to travel on this girder to provide a lifting point for the goods in question. The overall safe working load lifting capacity of this stylish, yet functional system was 3 tonnes. Both the crane and the 15 metre gantry steelwork on which the crane beam sits were painted with a highly visible yellow finish to help ensure workplace safety while the crane is in use. The total lift height which materials could be raised to was 5000mm. The supporting steelwork was carried on a total of six columns.
All travel motions of wire rope hoist both vertically and horizontally, and the movement of the crane beam were electric powered and operated via a pendant control for a dynamic and easy-to-use lifting solution.
In addition to designing and manufacturing this fully bespoke system, Pelloby’s team were also asked to deliver the crane, install it at the client’s site and then fully test it before use.
