Pelloby have installed a series of automated autoclave door handling systems for various clients across the nuclear industry.
These innovative lifting solutions are used to streamline the process of opening and closing heavy duty autoclave doors and have been installed in Britain, Japan, and at two different sites in Germany.
These door handling solutions are a great example of Pelloby’s capabilities in designing and manufacturing bespoke automated handling systems to suit any need. The autoclave solution installed in Britain, for example, controls a six metre diameter door that weighs 10.5 tonnes, but we are able to adapt this design to work with any sized door required.
Take a look at this video showing one of our Automated Autoclave Door Handling Systems in action:
The system works by suspending a fabricated mast to a travelling/rotating crab unit which moves along a gantry supporting framework. A three point connection allows for full adjustment of the door to ensure that it is aligned accurately with the castellated door locking mechanism.
All motions are inverter controlled and have absolute linear encoders to give very accurate positioning at all times. The crane controls are interlocked with the autoclave management system and on receiving an instruction to proceed the crane moves the door clear of the locking ring, travels across the crane bridge, rotates and long travels to park the door next to the autoclave.
On closing the door an additional optical device verifies that the door is accurately engaged before the locking mechanism is applied.
