Semi-gantry cranes utilise one floor mounted rail and one raised rail to support a modified gantry lifting system.
The use of an elevated rail in semi-gantry cranes to support one end of the beam is not only often a practical option, it can be very cost-effective too.
Pelloby are a leading UK manufacturer of semi-gantry cranes, supplying these bespoke lifting systems to trade clients and directly to end users both in the UK and across the world.
What is a semi-gantry crane?
As the name suggests, semi-gantry cranes are a variation of traditional gantry cranes.
They consist of a gantry structure made up of a horizontal beam (on which a hoist runs) connected at one end to a single upright column. The other end of the beam travels along a raised rail that is either mounted to a building wall or column/s or a dedicated freestanding gantry steel structure. The base of the upright column will typically run along the floor using tyres or a ground level rail.
Semi-gantry cranes made in the UK
A semi-gantry crane is a good option when you want an overhead lifting solution that only covers part of your premises. Whereas traditional overhead cranes tend to span the entire width of a warehouse, our expert team can produce semi-gantry cranes that only extend over a particular piece of machinery or a specific workstation. Not only does this let you better achieve your goals, it also keeps costs down.
Another price-reducing factor is that semi-gantry cranes require fewer supporting columns to be erected compared to fully overhead cranes, as the rail of one side of the crane is floor mounted. However, you do need to ensure you have the space available for this floor mounted rail to be installed and this area needs to be kept clear while the crane is in use to ensure safe working practices. Anti-clash sensors can be fitted to the floor mounted column to shut to limit the crane’s movement if it detects an obstacle.
